The approach

What This Workbook Believes

Everything below is visible in how the pages actually behave — the order they come in, what they refuse to ask of you, and where they stop and hand you to someone qualified.

Safety comes before insight

The workbook screens for safety before any exercise involving another person, and it repeats that screen on the days that need it. No page asks a reader to confront someone in order to complete it.

Accuracy, not positivity

“Naming an experience can create a little distance from it. The aim is accuracy, not forcing the feeling away.” Nothing here asks you to feel better than you do.

A boundary is about you

A boundary describes what you will do to protect your wellbeing. It is not a tool for controlling another person, and the workbook is careful about the difference.

Culture is held, not corrected

Family, faith and community can offer belonging and create pressure at the same time. The workbook makes room for both without shaming either.

Missing a day is not failure

“Change is built through repetition, support and safe action—not perfect attendance.” Restarting is treated as part of the plan.

Honest about its limits

This is an educational workbook. It states plainly, on the cover and inside, that it is not therapy, diagnosis or emergency support, and it points to professional care repeatedly.

Who wrote it

About the Author

Still being written

The author’s personal profile isn’t published yet. We would rather leave this blank than fill it with a biography that hasn’t been checked — in a mental-health context, an unverified qualification is not a small thing.

What can be said now: the workbook is published under Calm & Connect, it is explicitly an educational self-help resource rather than clinical material, and it was designed with African young adults and the diaspora in mind. It repeatedly directs readers toward qualified professionals rather than positioning itself as an alternative to them.

If you are considering the workbook and the absence of a named author matters to you — that is a reasonable thing to care about. Please write to us and ask. You can also read three complete days before deciding anything.

Scope

What This Is Not

Please read this

This workbook is educational. It does not provide diagnosis, therapy, medical advice or emergency services. It cannot replace a qualified mental-health professional, doctor, counsellor, social worker or domestic-abuse advocate.

It does not diagnose. It does not promise that distress will lift, that a relationship will survive, or that a difficult family will change. It will not tell you whether to leave someone. Where a page approaches something that genuinely needs a professional — coercion, safety planning, persistent distress — it says so and stops.

It is also not couples therapy in a PDF. The workbook is explicit that its communication and repair exercises are not a solution to coercion or abuse, and it screens for that before you reach them.
