What we are aiming for
This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Accessibility is not an afterthought here: a wellbeing product that only works if you can see well, use a mouse comfortably and tolerate motion is not much of a wellbeing product.
What is in place
- Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with a visible high-contrast focus indicator.
- Semantic headings, landmarks and lists throughout, so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
- Form fields have real labels, hints are programmatically associated, and error messages are in plain language.
- Colour contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body text, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Touch targets are at least 44px, comfortably above the 24px minimum (SC 2.5.8).
- No dragging is required anywhere. The distress scale and the slot picker are radio groups, not sliders (SC 2.5.7).
- Signing in needs no memorised password and no puzzle (SC 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication).
- All motion respects prefers-reduced-motion, and no content depends on animation to be readable.
- The page-turner works with arrow keys and buttons as well as swipe.
- Text reflows to 320px without horizontal scrolling, and can be zoomed to 200% without loss of content.
Known gaps
We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist:
- The workbook PDF itself is not screen-reader accessible in its current designed edition — the text is rendered as outlines. The full daily content is available in accessible HTML in your account, and an accessible PDF is a priority.
- The site has not yet been tested end to end with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver by disabled testers. Automated checks are not a substitute for that.
- There are no captions or transcripts yet because there is no audio or video content. If audio is added, captions and transcripts will ship with it.
Tell us
If something here does not work for you, please email info@calmandconnectbook.com. Describe what happened and what you were using — we will treat it as a bug, not a request. If you need the workbook in a different format, ask and we will find a way to get it to you.
Questions about any of this? Write to info@calmandconnectbook.com or use the contact form.
